Cast Iron Cooking- is one of the best forms of cooking known to mankind. It's longivity has never been matched, nor has its ability to impress the food gods with dishes that turn the day into awesome. Especially when we're camping in the great outdoors. People have been using cat iron cookware since the 1600's and alot of the cookware is still around today. There are a few things that require attention before the use of one of these pans. I'm not going to get into sizing and all the diffrent types out there. Once you have the pan you want to use, we need to insure the pan has been seasoned correctly, you have some required utensils, and a fire to make it all happen.
Seasoning- Traditional cast-iron skillets don't emerge from the box with a nonstick surface. That comes with seasoning, or coating the skillet with cooking oil and baking it in a 350° F oven for an hour. It won't take on that shiny black patina just yet, but once you dry it with paper towels, it will be ready to use. You'll reinforce the nonstick coating every time you heat oil in the skillet, and you can hasten the process by seasoning as often as you like.....click to see more.
Stainless Steel Utensils-Using metal utensils in a nonstick pan is not a good idea. You can inadvertently scratch the surface of the pan, which could lead you to ingest the PFCs in the nonstick lining. Use wooden or heat-safe rubber utensils when using nonstick pans......click to see more.
